I've said before that Coelho never disappoints, and this book is as true to that statement as ever. I am not even halfway through my first reading, and I am again amazed at his storytelling acumen, and how each of his books (I've read four to date) is unique in it's style, yet true to his heart.

As an aside, this is the third book that the love of my life (who lives far away) and I are reading to each other over the phone every morning. We read about three pages a day, so as to savor the flavor and aroma of Coelho's great talent.

Brida Spanish Edition Paulo Coelho 9789504915249 Books Reviews

Generally, when I hear someone say words to the effect of "This may not be for everyone," I tend to think, "Then it's probably not for ANYONE!" However, there are exceptions to every generalization (even that one!), and "Brida" is one.

Paulo Coelho is a world-renowned spiritual writer, and, in my opinion, EVERYONE should read "The Alchemist." I can highly recommend other books of his such as "The Zahir" and "The Devil and Miss Prym." However, many spiritual "babes" and "adolescents" may not be able to get past the idea of pantheism (or nature worship or Wicca) not being incompatible with Christianity or any other established religion. If you are devout and take rigid interpretations of your religion, "Brida" is not for you. (I would avoid "The Witch of Portobello" as well!) If you have reached a point in your spiritual walk where your faith can stand a little stretching, plunge ahead!
I seem to find answers to my questions of my journey in these novels by Coelho. The timing is always right for me when they appear on my night stand. To be reminded of how love is the only path, that mistakes are necessary and great teachers appear when we are ready for our transformation, is a joy & a comfort. I love these stories and am sad when they are done, but I carry the learning and pleasant joys with me on my path.
I am an avid reader of Paulo coelho books. I have read many of his collection. Brida is a fun and easy read and not as difficult to understand as I a couple of the other books. I can always pick up this book and begin where I ended without forgetting anything from the time before. I love his writing and his understanding of the world around him. He takes me on amazing journeys of my own mind while enjoying the scenery of others in his books.
Reads like a rough draft of a young adult novel- I mean it feels sparse, not poorly edited. Like a well-developed outline that never got fully fleshed out. Interesting ideas and some beautiful thoughts mixed in with hoo-hoo pseudoscience and some straight-up patriarchal traditionalism (misogyny) that the reader may choose to excuse given the author's origins in Rio de Janeiro. On the upshot, it reads rapidly and can be digested in a night or two, so it's not a huge waste of time if you end up disliking it, and if you love it, awesome!
As I finish this book I have regained hope; hope in humanity, hope in the path I have to walk. There's lessons on humility, on the value of every person, and the wisdom of nature and the universe, with which we are one. It is a book about the power of love, courage, and the most mundane things that work as a bridge between the rational and the irrational, sanity and madness, the visible and the invisible. Lastly, it is about the balance between the "magical" and our everyday lives not being mutually exclusive but rather symbiotic. Once again, Coelho manages to speak to my soul and remind me it is beautiful to be alive and that I know a lot more than what I give myself credit for all I have to do is trust the dark night.
I am wildly crazy about Coelho's books in general. I think he's one of the world's most gifted living writers. His ability to explore zeitgeist spiritual topics in the form of fiction and still have a compelling narrative is unfathomable. The star deduction for this one is because in some ways, it felt a like an old man's fantasy of sex with a younger woman. (I won't spoil the plot and let you know whether or not they do it.) I think there was also a lack of realistic relationship development between Wicca and Brida - in my experience as a woman, I felt it was unlikely to unfurl that way. I've been the student and the teacher, and this just felt unnatural.

It is a great book, better than most things one can read, but not Coelho's best work in my humble opinion.
I read this book for the first time when I was 17 and I am reading it for the second time now that I’ve recently turned 25. It’s a beautiful story that has either consciously or subconsciously been a major influence on my perception of the world for all this time.

This was my first Paulo Coelho book and I have loved all of his writings ever since. His words speak to my soul in a way that no language can describe.
I've said before that Coelho never disappoints, and this book is as true to that statement as ever. I am not even halfway through my first reading, and I am again amazed at his storytelling acumen, and how each of his books (I've read four to date) is unique in it's style, yet true to his heart.
